Unfortunately the web server is experiencing a SYN flood. This began around yesterday afternoon. Some clients may experience slow load times. Tech support is working hard to fix.
I think Bob Parsons, CEO of GoDaddy, should be forced to join Ted Nugent’s “Runnin’ Wild” reality show. Let’s bring it back for one special episode so Nugent (and some lucky animal loving winners) can hunt him down in honor of the elephant he killed. Parsons is looking for publicity and attention-getting after all. I think this would make for great TV and a lovely little YouTube clip.
NEWSFLASH: just in case you didn’t know…. GoDaddy is a terrible web host! Consider the old adage: you pay for what you get. If you’d love some DNS issues, slow load times and downtime – then please sign up for that $5 buck a month service. Clearly you are not serious about your website. Read the web hosting boards, read the complaint websites… The one thing they are good at? Marketing. Sell, sell, sell, sell.
About.com, eHow and other content farms beware! Google has finally caught onto you and significantly modified their algorithm. Will this improve our search results? Time will tell. Read the NYtimes article to find out more >>>

On February 24, 2010, EMC Web Hosting/Myriad Networks/EMC Telecom’s web servers went down. The outage lasted approximately 27.5 hrs. No email, no websites humming, zero telephone support. EMC clients, such as myself, searched for a telephone number to contact EMC Telecom. Everything we found, including the 888 number on my billing statement produced the robo voice “We’re sorry, this telephone number is no longer in service”. Rumors swelled as we all turned to commiserate in the forum “Webhostingtalk”.
About 10 hrs after the outage began, FINALLY Michael Tyler, Director of Datacenter Operations at EMC Telecom/Myriadnetworks made a post in the webhostingtalk.com forum. It offered us little solace and even admonished us all for calling the cell phone number of a tech support rep! “… he is not taking any more calls by that method.” Not taking any more calls? EMC/Myriadnetworks never took ANY calls in the first place.
Many of us in the forum grew angry. We felt ignored, lied to and treated poorly with being given such little information regarding the severity of the outage. Resellers such as myself had zero information to pass along to their clients. It made us look really bad.
On Friday, February 26th, I received an email from the EMC helpdesk. The email stated “We have credited your account $153.70 to pay your monthly renewal through March. Your next payment will be due for April as regularly scheduled.”
Ah… my heart soared. How nice, I thought. Then it occurred to me. Wait! EMC “strangely” ran my credit card early for March hosting. My credit card was run a mere 30 minutes prior to the outage on February 24th. I say STRANGELY because EMC Telecom typically bills me on the last day of the month. Why did they STRANGELY run my card on February 24th?
So I began to laugh at the email from the EMC Helpdesk. Ah yes, you charge me – just to offer me a credit? I really do hope that this was an oversight. If not, EMC Telecom and Bernie Madoff were probably business partners.
I’ve responded to EMC support stating that I was already charged for March so the credit is bogus. I’m waiting on a response. More to come from this aggravated reseller.
UPDATE: It has been over 18 hours since I put two support tickets into EMC Telecom/EMC Hosting/Myriadnetworks and NO ONE has responded. Clearly there is no longer any technical support at EMC during the weekend. Buyer beware!
UPDATE 2: 19 hours and finally a response. What if my sites where down again? You decide.

Michael Tyler doesn’t have much to say… “we are still without our connectivity…” No really? Tell us something we don’t know.

Below is an update on the EMC Telecom, EMC Web Hosting, Myriad Networks outage.
- – - Donna
We are still down as of 7:30am MST AZ time. We are working with our data center co-lo to restore our internet connectivity and we anticipate to be online sometime this morning. We don’t have any specific time frame when this will happen, but know that we have been working on it all night and will continue to work on it until we get this resolved and everyone back online.
The main issue is related to our network connectivity from our providers and we are working this morning on getting us back online asap.
Once we get everything back online, we will release more details on what happened and answer any questions.
Also any info regarding a lawsuit or anything is completely false. We are not being sued by anyone. The chatter on Twitter and elsewhere is old and have no relevance on any current situation.
I will keep you posted throughout the day as I get more info.

We never realize just how much we depend on email until it goes down. Poof! Just like that it goes bye, bye taking your website with it.
Well fellow EMC Web Hosting, EMC Telecom, Myriadnetworks clients… how do we like them now? Yes, us resellers are angry. But only because we care dearly about our clients. We are successful when they are successful. Server and email issues are frustrating to everyone involved. Explanations begin to seem like excuses after a few hours.
Since our own good name rides on the hosting services provided by EMC Telecom, we NEED EMC to have 99.999% uptime! But I can’t bash them. The last two years have been good. I have not personally experienced any outages. If I’m not thinking about EMC then it means they are doing their job and everything is nifty in server land. Oh… but sadly not today. All of my client sites and email is down (myself included). EMC is down too.
Here is an update posted by Michael Tyler, Director of the Datacenter at EMC:
This is Michael Tyler from EMC Telecom /Myriadnetworks.
We are experiencing a major network outage at our datacenter. This happened approx. about 2pm MST AZ time today. We are working on restoring connectivity at this time. We are doing what we can to get everyone back online, and at this point we have no ETA on when our network will be back online.
This is affecting all VPS, dedicated, and shared customers, and also has all of our methods of support out as well, including our phone and ticket system.
This is not due to anyone not paying there bill with us, so if you had an issue prior to this, it is not related.
All user data is still intact and will be running as it was prior to the outage.
Once we have more viable info on the situation, we will update you on here. Or you will actually see your servers back on once we get things back up and running.
We are not going anywhere nor are we going out of business. This is just a major outage related to our connectivity.
I am also asking that you refrain from calling Erik Zeiner on his cell phone as he is not taking any more calls by that method. As we currently don’t have a support system in place, I will update you as I can here.
I will keep you guys posted as I get more info.
